Good Blog I Read

A good blog that I just read was about character. A good statement in it was character will show no matter the situation. This impacts me right now because I want to be a good person and I want my character to show through with the things I do. My morals have been changed over the year 2011. I realize that I have grown up and really matured over the year. Another good point in this blog was that character gives you the strength to be comfortable in your own skin. I think that is something that I should work on.

Water Drop

One little water drop can make a big effect. To me this means are you going to follow and stay behind or take the lead. Think about the path you want to take. Think about the person you want to be. Think about the people you want to surround yourself around.

Building Relationships

“People may not remember exactly what you did or what you said, but they will always remember how you made them feel."

It is important to build relationships with people. To take the time out of our day to make someone happy or feel better. That is one of the many things that I love about my job as a CNA working in a nursing facility, that we work hard to make people feel better. Older people don't always have the best day. A lot of them can't do things by themselves and they feel bad that we have to help them. I feel like when I make someone feel better then they make someone feel better and it spreads on and on. :)

Raiders

We have been trying to figure out why people go to the school activities. To support the Raiders, right? We have found that the numbers of the student sections are low. This is because of transportation, prices of games/food, and they are scared of the upperclass-man. I am a senior this year so I have had my share of going to the sporting games. I know that the student sections can get pretty crazy, especially when the game is intense. We should have more carpooling to away games. We should also get a season pass when we sign up for school.

Teamwork in leadership

Leadership is teamwork. Obviously if geese can work as a team so can people. In every team someone has to take charge so the project can get accomplished. We have been working as a team to find out why people go to the school activities.

Mr. Ritchie

Our speaker yesterday was Mr. Ritchie. He talked a lot about football. I am not really into sports so the whole football parts were boring to me. But he also talked a lot about teamwork. I think that in any job there will always be teamwork. I work with a great staff over at Highland Ridge and there are some people that require 2 people to assist them, in moving, ect. So we team up so we can get the job done.

Thanksgiving a little late

So this year I am thankful for my family. They have always supported me in everything I do and I know I can always count on them. My friends, some come and some go. My pets, they are my babies. My jobs. Without them I am not really sure what I would do. I love taking care of people and making them feel better. I also love getting a paycheck every 2 weeks.

Leadership in the workplace

Leadership is so important. Some of us use it everyday, like in the workplace. For example of my 2 jobs managers in stores are leaders, so are coordinators in nursing facilities. If no one wanted to be a manager or coordinator, then we as associates and assistants wouldn't know what we are supposed to do. They take charge and tell us what needs to get done. They help when other people are gone. They listen if someone else has an idea or something that needs to be brought up.

Group survey of school

So we have been doing this group project to see what other students think the conflicts are in our school. This really takes a team effort to do, we had to have someone make the survey, copy the surveys, pass them out, and record the data. This takes everyone in our group to do if we want to get it done on time.

Aaron Thomas

Aaron's father Ed was once a leader, for his family, football team and also his community. After they had the tornado Ed really stepped out of his way and got others to help clean up the rubble. Now Aaron is a leader because he goes around and tells people his story. He is a leader for his family and himself. I think that what he does is very great, his brother wouldn't be able to go around and speak because he gets emotional Aaron said. I think that when Ed was shot Aaron really stepped up to help his family.

Teamwork

For a leader it is very important to have good teamworking skills. They have to be able to communicate with others and sometimes they have to take charge. They have to be able to work well with others. They can share their ideas but also have to listen to other people's ideas. When working in a team it is very very important to hear everyones idea. When a leader can work with others as a team it helps make them a good leader.

Mission Statement

I am my best when I am comfortable and at my worst when I am tired and cranky, nervous and scared. I will find opportunities to use my natural talents and gifts such as I am good at cooking and baking. I like making cakes and cupcakes and then decorating them. I want to go to college and get a good job, so that when I get married and have a family I will be able to support them. I can do anything I set my mind to and I won't let people bring me down. My life's journey is to help others and let others help me when I need it and to be happy.

FFA

I am going to talk about FFA again because last year I didn't realize at how much leadership in FFA. There are so many people willing to go out and beyond something they would normally do. Mosanto and Dodge donate so much money to see us suceed in agriculture, they don't have to do that but they do. People don't have to be National FFA officers and give speeches at Convention but they do. College representatives don't have to travel to Indiana to give out information about their college but they do becasuse they also want to see us succed.

Leadership in the FFA

When I went to National FFA Convention last week there was a really inspiring motivational speaker. He was an older man. When he was young he got married and was in the war. He said how scared he had been and how much he missed his wife. One day, he didn't feel right and so he had a missle thing he was going to throw. Somehow it ended up blowing up. He ended up in the hospital and asked for a mirror when he woke up. He said he was mortified at what he saw and tried committing suicide by pulling a plug out of his nose. It didn't work. A person that was laying on a bed beside him wife had come in and told him he didn't want to be married anymore. The speaker said "No, no that's what is going to happen to me." His wife soon came in and told him she was so happy he was still alive and that she would always love him.
He told us to surround ourselves with people that make us happy. And even though there will be people in this world that make us made there will always be the good ones.

Advocacy

Today in my health class there was someone there to talk to us about advocacy. She seemed like a real leader to me because her job is to help sexually assaulted people and to inform them what they can do to cope with things that have happened to them. It would take a lot of strength and courage to do what she does because she might hear a story and the victim might not want to press charges or tell the police. She also goes to schools to inform people about where they can go for help or call hotlines. I didn't really know what advocacy was until she came in to talk but I think she is a real leader.

Movie

In the movie The Pursuit of Happyness Kris was very motivated to get a better job. Not only for his son and his wife but himself. He wanted his family to be happy and he wanted to be happy also. He didn't want to be in debt anymore. He wanted his son to get a better education than he did. He wanted the cycle to be different.

Speeches

My speech for class is going to be weather or not beauty pageants are bad for girls and the way they look at themselves. I think it is very bad because parents are pretty much pressuring their daughters to do it. In Toddlers in Tiaras the girl are 3-4 years old. They don't just say "hey I want to do this." Its the mother's dream. It can be very expensive and the girls get their hair and make up done for a few hours and then the time the contest rolls around they are tired and grumpy. I am ready to give this speech and I hope my class enjoys it.

Showing & Being a Leader

One way I am a leader is through 4-H. I have been in 4-H since 3rd grade. As we get older and have more knowledge about showing horses and taking good pictures we are able to share that knowledge with younger kids. Over the summer at the county fair there was a new member in my club showing her horse but she wasn't quite sure how to prepare before the show. So my mom and I brought her a little basket she could store brushes and horse shampoo, with a few treats, a hoof pick and some brushes we put in there for her. I told her a few ways to win the judge over, for example, smiling at the judge but not too much, pay attention to the horse and always act like you know exactly what you are doing. She now has a good idea of what to do now that she has gone out and showed. I hope I can help her more next year. Then when I come back to watch the shows after next year I hope she can help other people with showing.

Bugs in soup

So we had this speaker today and it was pretty interesting. He told a story about having lunch with an elderly lady, his father in law and brother in law. All of a sudden he saw something moving in his father in laws soup, he made sure the father in law saw it, all without using words. The father in law didn't seem to mind because he ate the soup anyway. Which is something I would not do. I think I would probably say I wasn't very hungry and grab a sandwich after I left. But this man ate it and he showed respect for the old lady. He could've yelled and flipped out like some people would do, and that would have upset her a lot because she was the host.

Leading

I have learned that we need to set goals and be committed to them. Good leaders empower others with their words and actions. Mr. Jepson also talked about the 90/10 principle. We control 90 percent of what happens, we have our eye on the prize. 10 percent is out of our hands and something might happen that we don't want it to. We can't control it and we have to learn how to deal with it.

Speakers in Class

Mr. Jepson has always been a favorite teacher of mine so I was pretty excited when he came to talk to our class. He told us that to be a good leader we need to have good relationships with people. Good relationships mean they will be able to trust you. But trust can end fast, it can take one word or action and people can get mad and lose your trust.

100th Birthday

When I turn 100 & I hope I make it that old. But I hope I'm not too confused because I want to remember what people say to me. I hope that whoever throws this awesome party brings 100 balloons. I hope that people tell me that I helped them in some way and tell me stories of how I did. I hope that my family is there along with the friends I will meet on this journey of life. We can dicuss the good times and even the not so good times. I want people to take lots of pictures. Then we can go race in our wheelchairs down the hallway.

Leadership Quote

The leadership instinct you are born with is the backbone. You develop the funny bone and the wishbone that go with it.
Elaine Agather

To me this means that people are not born to lead, they are born with a backbone. They can be funny but at the same time they are wise. They can wish and dream to accomplish something but they have to work hard and reach out to others to pursue that goal.

Failures

I think everyone is afraid of failing at something in their life. Whether its a test, a class, losing in a game.  So I think that is why we make goals for ourselves. I think everyone needs a goal and it should be realistic, something they will actually accomplish. We talked about this in class and it seems like all of us had some difficulties because the goals turned out to be visions. A goal for me is to get into college and get as many scholarships that I can.

Leaders

I think leaders are always working and studying leadership skills so they can become better. They become better at applying their skills and knowledge. I think a leader has to have good communication skills with their followers and they believe in themselves.

A Good Leader

I think that anyone can be a leader. I think that leadership skills are aquired over time, not just born with the qualities. A leader has a goal that they work towards and they have the power to influence people. Good leaders care for their team, they make time for their team, and listen to what their followers have to say. I also think that leaders have their own leaders that inspire them, where they might get some of the same ideas.
